A redução das necessidades de aquecimento e arrefecimento a partir de energia fóssil é um dos maiores desafios, cuja procura representa quase metade do consumo global de energia, resultando consequentemente em questões climáticas e ambientais complicadas. Aqui, demonstramos um dispositivo de gerenciamento térmico radiativo de modo duplo de alto desempenho, com comutação automática inteligente e energia zero. Ao perceber que a temperatura modula espontaneamente as próprias características eletromagnéticas, o dispositivo atinge ~859,8 W m-2 de potência média de aquecimento (~91% da eficiência de conversão solar-térmica) no frio e ~126,0 W m-2 de potência média de resfriamento em quente, sem qualquer consumo de energia externa durante todo o processo. Um dispositivo tão escalonável e econômico poderia realizar o controle bidirecional de temperatura em torno da zona de temperatura confortável da vida humana. Uma demonstração prática mostra que a flutuação de temperatura é reduzida em ~21 K, em comparação com a placa de cobre. A previsão numérica indica que este dispositivo real de gerenciamento térmico de modo duplo com energia zero tem um enorme potencial para economia de energia durante todo o ano em todo o mundo e fornece uma solução viável para atingir a meta de Carbono Zero Líquido 2050.
A gestão térmica desempenha um papel importante nas atividades humanas, desde milhões de metros cúbicos de estruturas feitas pelo homem1 até circuitos integrados em micro e nanoescala2, e desde naves espaciais que voam no espaço sideral3 até submersíveis tripulados em águas profundas4. Diversas tecnologias de gerenciamento térmico foram desenvolvidas de acordo com diferentes requisitos5,6,7. No entanto, a maioria deles consegue um controle de temperatura de alto desempenho às custas do consumo de energia, eventualmente de energia fóssil. Os relatórios salientam que a procura total global de energia primária está próxima do equivalente a 15 mil milhões de toneladas de petróleo em 20198, e quase 50% do consumo de energia é utilizado apenas para aquecimento e arrefecimento diários9. Isto faz com que a crescente crise energética continue a piorar. Entretanto, com o rápido aumento dos gases com efeito de estufa produzidos pela combustão de combustíveis fósseis, condições meteorológicas extremas, como calor intenso e frio intenso, têm ocorrido cada vez mais em todo o mundo nos últimos anos10. Portanto, é particularmente importante e imperativo desenvolver várias tecnologias viáveis de gestão térmica de alto desempenho com baixo ou mesmo zero consumo de energia, que sejam capazes de reduzir a procura de energia fóssil e ainda mais emissões de gases com efeito de estufa.
O gerenciamento térmico radiativo é considerado uma plataforma promissora para aquecimento e resfriamento sem consumo externo de energia, atraindo cada vez mais atenção11. A questão mais desafiadora para atingir esse objetivo é otimizar o espectro eletromagnético exclusivo dos materiais de gerenciamento térmico, maximizando a utilização tanto da fonte inesgotável de calor radiativo (ou seja, o sol, ~5800 K) quanto da fonte fria (ou seja, o espaço sideral, ~3 K) na natureza. Mais especialmente, para o aquecimento solar ideal, os materiais devem ter alta absortividade na faixa de comprimento de onda de 0,2 a 2,5 μm e baixa emissividade na faixa de comprimento de onda> 2,5 μm, determinada pelo espectro da luz solar e pela lei de radiação do corpo negro . Pelo contrário, para o resfriamento radiativo ideal, especialmente no resfriamento radiativo subambiente diurno, espera-se que os materiais reflitam eficientemente a radiação solar (0,2–2,5 μm) e também tenham forte emissão seletiva de infravermelho médio na faixa específica de comprimento de onda da atmosfera transparente. janela (8–13 μm) (Fig. 1)13. Observe que uma série de estudos sobre aquecimento solar e resfriamento radiativo, separadamente/independentemente, fizeram grandes esforços para compreender completamente o mecanismo científico e desenvolver materiais de alta eficiência14,15,16,17,18,19,20. No entanto, no mundo real, quase todos os cenários ambientais apresentam o desafio de os objetos estarem localizados num ambiente bastante dinâmico e variável, incluindo a flutuação nos aspectos de espaço, hora, dia e estação, temperatura, etc. o aquecimento solar fixo ou o resfriamento radiativo não são totalmente adequados para o ambiente dinâmico. Tomando como exemplo o aquecimento solar, o aquecimento indesejado aumentará o consumo de energia para refrigeração no quente e poderá até compensar a economia de energia do aquecimento no frio. O mesmo se aplica ao resfriamento radiativo. Portanto, para utilização prática, é necessário um sistema de gerenciamento térmico, capaz de possuir dois espectros eletromagnéticos opostos e alternar automática/inteligentemente para o modo correto, respondendo ao ambiente dinâmico.
